LIVERMORE FALLS — The final event of the summer reading program at Treat Memorial Library took place Aug. 15, marking the last opportunity for participants to turn in their reading logs for a chance to win one of three prize baskets and receive a goodie bag.

Alana Knapp, the assistant library director hosted the event which saw an enthusiastic turnout of both children and adults. Attendees enjoyed snacks and drinks while participating in a “mystery craft bag” activity. Each participant received a paper bag filled with random materials such as yarn, googley eyes, stickers and paper towel rolls. The challenge was to use at least five items from the bag to create a unique craft. There was also a table of additional craft supplies to choose from.

After the crafting session, participants took part in a gallery walk to showcase their creations. Some shared background stories, introducing imaginative characters like Madame Hoot, a post-apocalyptic survivor, ballerina and a superhero version of Daisy from the Great Gatsby. Knapp engaged the participants with humor, using “handy dandy judging cards” to select winners across various categories such as “sparkliest,” “best lore,” “best use of shapes,” “most creative use of the bag,” and “best engineering.” Gift coupons for free doughnuts at Berry Fruit Farm in Livermore Falls were among the prizes awarded.

Upcoming events at the Treat Memorial Library include craft circle Tuesdays 5:30 p.m., Wednesday story times 10:30 a.m. and Tech Sessions with Ernie Fridays 3-5 p.m.
