WEST PARIS — Sunday worship services are set to resume at 9 a.m. at the First Universalist Church of West Paris, 208 Main St. The line up includes themes and speakers, including a poetry series and a concert series, both starting in September.
Music is performed by guitarist Davy Sturtevant.
Sept. 8: “Water Communion” will be led by the worship service committee. Those attending can bring a small amount of water from a place that is special to them. At the appointed time during the service, each will pour their water into a large bowl. As water is added, each will tell those gathered why the water is special.
Sept. 15: “Poetry in Shared Stories of the Unexpected” will be led by Maryli Tiemann, a frequent speaker at the church. This service will kick off the poet series. Tiemann will bring copies of “Read To Me Some Poem,” the Maine poetry anthology she co-edited this January.
Sept. 22: “Whoever Receives One of These” based on Mark 9:30-37, will be led by the Rev. William (Scott) Campbell.
Sept. 29: “A Healing for the World” worship service will be led by Jim Scott, who mixes songs and stories in a message of peace and reconciliation for a wounded world and the struggling society. Scott has toured the world, recorded nine CDs of original music and published a growing line of choral works.
That Sunday at 2 p.m., Scott also will lead a multimedia concert, “The Year to Save the Earth.”
