James “Jim” Maurice Cote
RUMFORD – James “Jim” Maurice Cote, 83, of Rumford, passed away at his son’s home in Hudson, Maine, on August 12, 2024. Jim, a nearly lifelong resident of Rumford, the son of Emile and Gertrude (Metivier) Cote, was born May 20, 1941.
Throughout his career Jim worked for the Rumford Public Works Department; drove tractor trailer; worked heavy construction; and work for a local plumbing and heating company. Jim’s last career was with the Maintenance Crew at the Rumford School Department, a position he had always wanted and thoroughly enjoyed doing and would ultimately retire from.
One of Jim’s favorite pastimes was fishing and he could regularly be seen wetting a line at many local fishing holes in the Rumford area, not being much for eating fish he would typically give his catch to those he knew would enjoy them or could use the food. Jim also enjoyed all kinds of music and took much pleasure in playing his guitars in the evenings and weekends.
Jim was predeceased by his wife of 38 years Jacqueline Wing; daughter Dori LaPlant; grandson Stone Walton; brothers Philip, John “Jack”, Remi, and Richard “Dicky”, and sisters Evelyn Hotham and Marguerite Wermenchuk.
He is survived by son James and wife Becky of Peru, daughter Janice Cote of Florida, son David and wife Tracy of Hudson, son Tracy (Michael) and Samantha of Tennessee, son Scott and wife Taja Walton of Dixfield, son Kris and wife Leslie Walton of Rangeley, Bruce Walton of Rumford, Jason Walton of Rumford; sister Marie and husband Doyle Woods of Rumford, and sister Deborah and husband Mark Anderson of Saco; grandchildren Mathew, Rebecca, Adam, Ashley, James (Mason), Misty, Ronald, Brittany, and Brianna; along with 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; as well numerous nieces and nephews who he always enjoyed spending time with.
There will be a graveside service for James at Greenwood Cemetery off Pine Street in Dixfield on Sept. 7, 2024 at 10 a.m. and a celebration of life for James will be held the same day starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Campgrounds at 200 Mountain View Drive off Weld Street in Dixfield.
To honor Jim’s love for fishing, in lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to a local charity that supports outdoors activities and fishing for kids like the Bryant Pond 4-H Camp Scholarship Fund
