FX Marcotte is believed to be the second-longest operating furniture store in Maine, with Stonington’s Fabulous Furniture in Brewer listing its founding as 1883. FX Marcotte was founded in 1888.
The business started as a general store selling everything form pots and pans to wash tubs, baby trams, clocks, china, and even caskets (Marcotte ran an undertaking business on the fourth floor of the building) before transitioning into furniture and appliances.”
Today, FX Marcotte Furniture remains a fixture in the community with the original store on Lincoln Street and a second store in South Portland.
