LISBON — A local man was arrested on a variety of charges early Wednesday morning after a standoff with police that began nine hours earlier.
Police said 53-year-old Thomas Bayne of Lisbon Falls was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston for evaluation before he was moved to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, charged with assault, terrorizing and creating a police standoff.
The drama began about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when Lisbon police were called out for a report of a domestic assault at a home on Main Street in Lisbon Falls, according to a news release.
“Initial reports indicated that a firearm was inside the residence,” Lisbon police wrote in a release, “raising concerns about the potential escalation of the situation.”
Lisbon police immediately called for help from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and Sabattus police as they set up a perimeter around the home, blocking nearby roads to public traffic.
The Maine State Police Tactical Team was also called to assist and police evacuated some nearby homes. Lisbon Fire and emergency crews were also at the scene.
Sometime after midnight, Bayne came out of the home and was arrested without incident. There were no reports of gunfire or any injuries suffered during the long standoff.
