Robert Wesley Pickens Jr.

SABATTUS – Robert Wesley Pickens Jr., “Bob”, 68, of Sabattus, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sept. 9, 2024, at CMMC after many courageous health battles.

Robert was born in Portland, on Oct. 26, 1955, to Robert Wesley Pickens Sr and Gloria T. Bradgon Pickens.

He graduated from Gray New Gloucester High School “home of the Patriots”. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a gunner’s mate on the USS Santa Barbara, stationed in Charleston, S.C., where he offered to buy Mary Ellen Scott a beverage, he then asked her to dance, and eventually to marry him on Sept. 15, 1980. He told her “I want to be married on the day we met, and the night I fell in love with you”.

He worked at Lepage bakeries for 40 years.

They built a home and a life together he was a good and a faithful husband until the Lord called him home.

Robert was a father to Robert Miller, Audrey Allaire, Belinda Foster, and Charmer Miller. Grandfather to Craig Allaire, JP Foster, Lynna Miller, Bryce Allaire, Dharma Miller. Great-Grandfather to Bradly and Sophia Foster. He was loved dearly by his four sisters, Gloria Groves, Brenda Kimball, Sherry Pickens, and Sandy Guptill. He was admired for his strength and perseverance by all his nieces and nephews.

Robert spent his life caring for those he loved. He proudly walked each of his daughters down the aisle. He enjoyed hunting with his dad and passed that tradition down to his Grandson Bryce. He was a member of the Sabattus Gun club. Target shooting, Scuba diving, the Patriots football team, and Elvis Presley music, were his other loves.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Auburn. He loved the Lord. He was a Boy Scout in his youth. He served in the active military, as well as the reserves. He was honorably discharged from his service to his country.

Several of his children, and his grandchildren followed his example of serving their country with pride.

He will be greatly missed.

Services and a celebration of his life will be held at Pinette, Dillingham and Lynch Funeral home located at 305 Alfred A Plourde Parkway in Lewiston, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and a funeral service with military honors at 12 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.

The family would like to thank the outstanding staff at CMMC, the VA Hospital, and the Fresenius dialysis center for the care and compassion shown to Robert Wesley Pickens Jr.

Bob, “our bright flame”-The lord is good a stronghold in the day of trouble, and he knoweth them that trust in him-Nahum 1:7.
