Robert Davidson doesn’t have kids, doesn’t want them. But he knows how to raise great ones.

He’s even written a best-selling book to tell parents how.

“You’ve got to talk with them,” he told an audience Wednesday night at Lewiston Middle School. “You have to be available, spend time with them. Encourage them to develop intellectually, to read. Discipline them. Instill self-esteem.”

Those aren’t Davidson’s ideas. He went to the experts — parents of well-adjusted, self-confident children. High school principals pointed him to the families. He contacted 100 of them.

The result was “How Good Parents Raise Great Kids: The Six Essential Habits of Highly Successful Parents” published by Warner Books.

The material used in Looking Back is produced exactly as it originally appeared although misspellings and errors may be corrected.
