AUBURN — Police shut down a section of Kittyhawk Avenue at Hotel Road on Thursday afternoon as Cumberland County Sheriff’s officials investigated a report of a suspicious item discovered in the area.
The situation was resolved roughly an hour later and the road was opened again.
The item, described as both a package and a device, was investigated near the New Gloucester town line, according to a police bulletin. Police stressed that there is no threat to the public. They did not specify what type of item was found.
Police shut down a southbound section of Hotel Road and were diverting traffic onto Kittyhawk Avenue. At about 4:30 p.m., police asked that motorists avoid the area if possible.
By 5:30 p.m., police advised that the situation was over and Hotel Road was open to traffic again.
