Twice Sold Tales as seen on Friday, Sept. 13, in Farmington. Leo Goddard/Franklin Journal

FARMINGTON – Devaney Doak and Garrett Booksellers [DDG] and Rustica Journal are collaborating with Twice Sold Tales to bring exciting literary events to town.

Twice Sold Tales is the venue of the Thursday Island Readings, where once a month they invite an author to read. There will be three events each summer, spring, and fall.

This year, the theme of the events is “Maine summer camp.” Authors are encouraged to host an activity aside from their reading that will engage the audience with something attendees can take home whether it is a craft, song in their head, or a new idea. This also allows the audience to see another side of the author.

Amber Stone, co-owner of Twice Sold Tales, said that Farmington has a “vibrant literary community” and that she wants people to embrace it. She shared that they host a diverse group of authors featuring all kinds of genres.

The next event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. where author and University of Maine at Farmington Professor Lewis Robinson will read from his new novel “The Islanders.” For his secondary activity, he will be leading a screen printing session.

This is Stone’s fifth year owning Twice Sold Tales with Ben Hanstein. She said that they are getting their feet back under them after COVID-19 interrupted their flow.

Stone and Hanstein planned renovations for Twice Sold Tales with events in mind. They recently opened a bar inside the shop to enhance the experience of their events after receiving their liquor license.

Stone said that they wanted to create a safe, comfortable environment for readers, “what books should be,” she said.
