AUBURN — A 16-year-old has been charged in connection with a vehicle burglary which police believe may have been part of a larger string of thefts that occurred over a period of six days earlier this month, according to a police Facebook post on Friday.

In some of the vehicle break-ins, firearms were reported stolen, police said.

Between Sept. 13 and Wednesday, Auburn police have investigated several reports of thefts from motor vehicles occurring throughout the city.

“In all instances, the vehicles targeted were left unlocked and the items that were taken range from loose change to laptop computers and handguns,” according to the post.

The cases involving the stolen firearms are still under investigation, police said.

“The Auburn Police Department reminds you to lock your vehicle doors and stow away valuable items, no matter how long your vehicle is left unattended,” according to the post. “Responsible gun ownership includes making sure firearms are properly secured in homes as well as in vehicles.”
