Mr. D. Holbrook has kept a record for twenty years of the thunder and rainstorms in Livermore Falls and he informs the Journal that this was the first summer that he has not been able to record a severe thunder shower and that he has recorded only three distinct flashes of lightning.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Auburn Police Chief Peter Mador said today there seems to be some confusion regarding the new city ordinance aimed at stopping the drivers of large vehicles from using Goff Hill.

A near-tragic accident occurred last Monday when a loaded dump truck lost its brakes while the driver was attempting to ascend steep Goff Hill, on Court Street.

That night, the city council passed an ordinance which restricts the use of Goff Hill by heavy vehicles.

25 Years Ago: 1999

Rain, snow, sleet, or what have you, if the Red Sox play ball in Boston tomorrow afternoon there WILL BE 173 loyal Sun Journal newspaper boys rooting for them in choice seats at Fenway Park.

These boys, who follow the Red Sox faithfully throughout the long season, earned the big trip to the Boston-Detroit game Saturday by getting new customers on their routes. Five busloads of newspaper carriers leave Saturday morning at nine, Boston-bound.
