Rosalie “Jean” Smith

SOLON – Rosalie “Jean” Smith, 83, a resident of Solon and formerly of Leeds, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at her son’s home in Solon where she had been residing for the past several years.

She was born Oct. 1, 1940, in Norway, the daughter of Everand and Nettie (Rich) Monk. As a child she stayed with Pearl and Clara Gray. She was a 1960 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. On Oct. 8, 1960, she married Wallace Smith, Sr. of Turner and together they raised their family of four children, Carmen, Chuck, Skip and Tony. They enjoyed 48 wonderful years together before Wallace passed away on Dec. 15, 2008.

Jean was a homemaker and an egg picker for Decoster Egg Farms for 17 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, crocheting, listening to country music and visiting with neighbors and friends. Jean loved spending the summers with Chuck and Donna and camping at Martin Stream Campground, where she was known as “Camp Nana”.

She is survived by a daughter, Carmen Louise McCraw and her husband Charles, of Indiana, three sons, Owen “Chuck” Winslow Smith II and his wife Donna of Turner, Wallace “Skip” John Smith, Jr. and his wife Darlene of Solon and Anthony “Tony” Scott Smith of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her brother, Persey “Buddy” R. Monk and his wife Marcia of Mason Twp.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Wallace “Wally” Smith, Sr.; three sisters, Jackie Gerry, Patty Kennedy, Vicky Goding and brothers, Rick Houghton and Benjamin “Butch” Monk.
