PORTLAND – Gilbert H. Anders, Jr., 79, of Livermore Falls, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 5, 1945, in the City of Long Branch, NJ, the son of Gilbert H. Anders, Sr. and Helen (Forsythe) Anders.
He was a graduate of Freehold High School, in Freehold Borough, NJ. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam. On May 18, 1974, in Livermore Falls, he married Annie Rollins of Orient, Maine.
Gilbert worked at International Paper Company in Jay at the Androscoggin Mill for over 30 years as a Power Plant Operator. He was a member of the International Paper Company Quarter Century Club, Amvets Post 37 in Jay, and Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post 3335 in Jay.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, visiting with his friends at the post and special friend George McCormick in Wilton.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Annie Anders of Livermore Falls; stepson, Ron Deering and wife Tammy of Jay, daughter Denise McQuarie and husband Gary of Illinois; grandchildren, Ron Deering, Jr. and wife Kayla of Jay, Amanda Ready and husband Shawn of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Alexi Deering of Jay, great-grandchildren, Laeton and Leklan Ready and Paisley and Payton Deering; and his sister, Susan Anders of North New Portland. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Danny and Kevin Anders; and his grandson, Andrew Deering.
