AUBURN – Marthe C. Bissonnette, 80, passed away peacefully on Oct. 8, 2024, after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Referred to as “petite-Marthe” by her beloved cousins and siblings, she was born in Lewiston on April 13, 1944, to Alcide and Gratienne Chouinard, and was the youngest of their three children.

Marthe attended school at Mount Merici Academy in Waterville with her sister before returning to Lewiston to work as a bank teller. She married her husband Donald in 1969, and they raised their four children together in their home on Stanley Street in Lewiston. Marthe served as a talented office manager at Donald’s accounting firm until his passing in 2012, and was an integral part of Maine’s annual Gear-Up Tax Seminar during that time. She also served as the Treasurer of the local chapter of Catholic Financial Life, served on the Maine Family Federal Credit Union Supervisory Committee, and shared her voice as a proud member of the choir at Holy Family Church. Marthe was known to share her talent for sewing homemade gifts at the holidays and decorating elaborate cakes for her loved ones. She and Don enjoyed traveling near and far, and attending Maine State Music Theatre productions with friends Ray and Sue Lagueux, who they considered family.

Marthe is survived by her four children, David of Nashua, N.H., Jeffrey (Shannon) of Dover, N.H., Anne Pelkey (Joseph) of New Gloucester, and Nicole of Portland; five grandchildren, Connor, Emma, and Dillon Bissonnette, and Daniel and Sarah Pelkey; her brother-in-law, Louis Dumais and his three children, Tim, Chris, and Eric; her dear cousins Patricia Dunbar, Pauline Drouin, and Bob Frechette; and dear friends, nieces, and nephews who share fond memories of their time with her.

Marthe was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Donald; her siblings Fr. Lionel Chouinard and Therese Dumais, and all but one of her siblings-in-law.
