The Oasis of Music will present Michael Libby on steel cello joined by Greg Boardman on viola in a program of improvised contemplative music at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Trinity Commons in Lewiston.
Libby is a multi-disciplinary artist who also practices as an addictions counselor. His current art show at the Atrium of LA College is entitled “Art as Medicine,” which is also the name of the community workshops he offers as ways participants can connect with themselves and others in unique ways, as they make their own very immediate art.
The steel cello is the invention of the late Bob Rutman, who performed extensively in Maine back in the 1970’s with the Central Maine Power Music Company. It gives off a unique resonance that straddles the worlds of nature and industry.
The Oasis of Music is a weekly music series of performances of roughly thirty minutes, running from September to May. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The musical genres vary greatly, in largely, but not exclusively, acoustic formats. Trinity Commons is located at 247 Bates St., Lewiston. For more information, call 207-344-3106.
