I am a young Mainer, a college graduate working here in my home state. My job pays about average for what I studied in school.
Surprisingly, my Maine state taxes are now $1,000 per month. That would be extreme even for my parents, but I am only 21 years old. It is honestly very tough on my budget.
Besides the $1,000 per month to Maine, I also pay federal taxes and sales taxes. It is difficult to save. Some of my college classmates have decided New Hampshire is better because of its lower taxes.
Maine legislators need to think about people who work hard and contribute to society, and tax us reasonably to attract young workers like me. Rep. Laurel Libby works hard to keep more of our own money in our pockets, opposing raising taxes on Maine workers.
I’m voting for the first time, and voting for Rep. Libby.
