Alison McConnell, right, shovels garden soil Sunday as Brigette Bartlett builds the first level of a wall at the Webster Street Community Garden in Auburn. The women work in the gardens programs at the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center. They raised beds, built from wood, have deteriorated due to weather and age. Supported by the city of Auburn and Gagne & Son, the project is replacing the beds with concrete walls. The bottom layers are being built now, and volunteers are expected to continue the work next weekend. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
