LEWISTON — Edward Little’s forwards led the way in a 7-2 girls soccer victory over Lewiston to capture the Maca Roddy trophy Monday at Don Roux Field.

Junior Sophia Cote scored three goals — and was named Edward Little’s player of the match — and fellow forward Gabby Gerry scored twice and added two assists.

“This is my first hat trick ever, and I have been waiting for this moment for, like, my whole high school career,” Cote said. “I was happy tonight was the night — our last game of the regular season. It feels so great.”

The Maca Roddy trophy — named after former Edward Little soccer player Maca Roddy, who died in a car accident in 1995 — is awarded to the winner at the second Edward Little-Lewiston regular season matchup.

Gerry finishes her career with five goals and four assists in the Maca Roddy game.

“I love it; it really motivates me,” Gerry said of the rivalry. “It’s because I have a lot of friends on the Lewiston team. It’s fun, there’s no tension — there is, but it’s like fun tension.”

Senior midfielder Layla Facchiano also scored a pair of goals and recorded two assists. She finishes her career with five goals and three assists in the Maca Roddy game.

Lewiston’s Lauren Landry netted both goals in the loss and was named Lewiston’s player of the match.

Edward Little (6-7-1) struck twice in the first 10 minutes of the opening half. Cote chased the ball down in the 18-yard box and chipped it over Lewiston goalie Dayla Tripp (10 saves) in the fifth minute.

“That has actually been like most of my goals this season,” Cote said. “I am just crashing the net; that’s what I am trying to do. I am a pretty fast player, so I am trying to crash.”

Gerry sent the ball into the box and it was redirected off Layla Facchiano’s body and into the net in the ninth minute for a 2-0 lead.

“Over the last couple of games, we have started to put the pieces together and move the ball like we have been trying to do all season,” Edward Little coach Tyler Shennett said. “… We really have reached our peak, and obviously, we are waiting on results from some other games to see if we can get a playoff berth.”

The Red Eddies are currently ninth in the Class A North Heal point standings.

Lewiston’s (1-13) best chance of the first half came on a direct kick late, but Lola Cunningham (five saves) made the save for the Red Eddies.

Gerry scored two quick goals in the second half, first on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. A minute later, she crossed the ball just inside the far post to make it 4-0.

“I was trying to cross it, but it so happened to curve into the top right corner,” Gerry said of her second goal. “I was like, ‘Oh, OK.'”

Lauren Landry got Lewiston on the board with a long shot past Cunningham in the 15th minute. The Blue Devils had another chance a couple of minutes later, but the ball sailed over the crossbar.

“The second half, we really came, we really did get back into the game a bit,” Lewiston coach Kevin Albert said. “Started doing some of the things that we had hoped that we would have done in the first half. Started getting some balls, putting some pressure on the (defense), using some of our speed, just getting some pressure into the box.”

Cote charged to the ball in the box and got her foot on the ball to extend the Red Eddies’ lead to 5-1.

“She struggled to get involved, in terms of goals this season as a forward, but she has flipped it on its head the last couple of games,” Shennett said of Cote. “She’s always been a playmaker, always that player that drops to and finds those options out wide and going through.”

Gerry set up Cote’s third, sending a cross that Cote, while running to the goal, headed past Tripp for a 6-1 lead in the 64th minute.

Facchiano’s second goal — a shot from inside the 18-yard box in the 31st minute of the second half — capped Edward Little’s scoring.

Landry notched her second goal by knocking the ball past Cunningham off a corner kick in the 32nd minute.

“So right off the corner, the keeper went up, tried to make a play on the ball and wasn’t able to handle it, and it did end up right in the net, which was great, good for her,” Albert said of Landry. “Either way, I was just happy we were able to put one in. We had two girls sitting right there, kind of escorting the ball in the net, which was great. We showed some urgency a little bit and some aggressiveness.”
