The first game reported in Auburn was a small brown bear brought in by W. Bickford of the Bickford Moccasin Co.
Mr. Bickford went into camp at Hastings Friday night about dark and at seven o’clock Saturday morning he had Mr. Bear strung up.
“I didn’t run from him either,” Mr. Bickford says, adding that it is usual when the mighty hunter brings home a bear, to also bring home a story of, a thrilling encounter and narrow escape from being made a meal for Bruin.

A fire which apparently smouldered all night in the cellar of The Cage at 97 Ash St., Lewiston, was extinguished this morning by Lewiston firefighters.
A fire department spokesman said a workman had been using a torch yesterday to solder copper pipes on the basement ceiling, and some sawdust in the partially covered ceiling must have caught fire and burned slowly all night.

To end the area’s “Week Without Violence,” the Police Athletic League and the Franco Folk Arts Cooperative of Maine will co-sponsor a “Hearts and Fiddles” contra-dance Saturday night at the Hillview Resource Center in Lewiston.
The free dance is open to all high school students. Students from Lewiston High, Edward Little and St. Dom’s can attend, as well as students from surrounding schools.
“Through PAL we try to present opportunities for children in the community. We felt this was a good vehicle to do that,” said Police Deputy Chief Andy D’Eramo. And, he added, this kind of dance “would be a little different.”
