Q&A

1) Define what “success” would look like if you are elected to serve your district.

For the last two years I’ve served as an advocate for the people of District 89 to ensure that their voices are heard, valued, and represented in Augusta. I measure success by people feeling understood, cared for, and well represented.

To achieve success, my job is to continue to fight against special interests and petty partisan politics and focus on the needs of the actual people I serve. This is the most important work I have ever done, and I’m prepared and enthusiastic to return to Augusta and do it.

2) Name one issue the Legislature handled last session. Explain why you agree or disagree with the final outcome.

Since serving as a city councilor I have worked tirelessly to make our roads safer for pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles.

Last legislative session I was proud to sponsor and pass L.D. 1674 which ensures the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) pursues projects that provide safety and access for all road users by adopting rules to ensure bicyclists, pedestrians and motor vehicle users have safe and efficient access to transportation systems. When adopting these rules, MDOT would need to consider safety metrics and crash data and allow municipalities to request road safety evaluations. The bill also advances thoughtful development by prioritizing projects contributing to walkable neighborhoods, developing vacant or underutilized lots and supporting land preservation.

I’m proud of the work I have done, but, as evidenced by the recent accident on Minot Ave. involving a student simply crossing the road to get to school, there is far more work to do. I’m ready to do that work.
