PARIS — Town Manager Natalie Andrews announced during last week’s Select Board meeting that the property tax rate for fiscal year 2024-25 will be $14.66 per $1,000 of assessed valuation — a $1.44, or 9%, drop.

Taxes on a home assessed at $200,000 would be $2,932, a decrease of $288.

Andrews mentioned at the Select Board meeting that the property tax rate would have gone down to about $12 without the county and school tax assessments.

In response to a question about town Assessor Cindy Namer adjusting property values up in order to get as close to 100% of “just value” as possible, Andrews said that process has been completed. Namer used property values and sales data from the past two years to more accurately adjust the valuation of properties in town.

“If you disagree with that, you can talk to the assessor,” Andrews said. She also added that after talking to the assessor, an abatement can be filed if the property owner disagrees with the valuation.

In other business, Russell Brackett and Kerri Bailey were appointed to three-year terms on the Select Board, Patricia O’Brien and Lisa Palmer to two-year terms, and Robert Jewell to a one-year term. Joseph O’Brien and Matthew Gary were appointed alternates.

“It has to be staggered since you’re populating the board again for the first time,” Andrews said.

The Select Board will next meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 12.
