100 Years Ago: 1924

Mrs. Velora J. Strout of Minot will receive $.99 damages from Frank W. Hodge, also of Minot, whom she sued for $1,000 damages in superior court, Friday alleging that he assaulted her. The unusual verdict of one cent less than a dollar was returned by a traverse jury of 12 men and women at 8.20 Friday evening read when court convened Saturday morning being sealed overnight.

50 Years Ago: 1974

A party was given recently at the Auburn United Methodist Church in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Libby of 101 Gamage Ave., Auburn, Maine in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary.

The event was arranged by their two daughters and their sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Cheney Ford of Auburn, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morrill of Scituate, Mass.

What former Rumford woman will appear on “Jeopardy” this week?

It was like walking into a shrine when Leach entered the Los Angeles studios of one of the most popular game shows on TV, she said. “To be on TV, the studio audience, all the people there,” she said.

“Jeopardy” has been a favorite television program of Leach’s since she was 10. And to actually have a chance to play, and win, was something Leach never expected.
