BUCKFIELD — Firefighters were still battling hot spots Sunday afternoon from a brush fire Saturday night along Sodom Road, near South Pond, in Buckfield, officials said.

The fire was first reported at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday as having spread to about 1½ acres of brush, according to 911 call records.

After the arrived, firefighters reported the fire had grown to about 3½ acres.

Chief Adam Dupile of Buckfield Fire-Rescue Department said that by the time firefighters had the fire mostly under control, about 5½ acres had burned.

“We had it mostly knocked down around 10 p.m. and we cleared at about 11:30 p.m.,” Dupile said. “There were no injuries, we just had a hard time locating and accessing the area.”

No home was damaged because of the fire, Dupile said.

Crews were called back Sunday afternoon to extinguish hot spots in the middle of the burned area.

Firefighters from Canton, Hebron, Minot, Norway, Paris, Sumner and Turner also fought the large brush fire.
