GRAY — Gray-New Gloucester/NYA and Greely battled for nearly four full quarters before either team gained an advantage Tuesday.
The third-seeded Patriots scored first and took down the sixth-seeded Rangers 1-0 in a Class B South field hockey quarterfinal on Tuesday.
“What an intense game,” Gray-New Gloucester/NYA coach Julia Leary said.
Emma Bowden scored the game’s only goal after a scramble in the circle with 4:22 left in the game. Greta Tod assisted on the goal.
Rangers (6-8-1) goalie Mya Vickerson made five saves.
The Patriots (13-2) advance to face No. 2 Yarmouth (14-1) in the semifinals. The Clippers, who defeated Poland 6-1 on Tuesday, handed Gray-NG/NYA one of its two losses this season.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 7, TRAIP 0: Alaina Kachnovich had two goals and an assist as the Phoenix advanced in the Class C South quarterfinals in Jay.
Maddie Grimaldi also had two goals for fourth-seeded Spruce Mountain (9-6), while Adell Pease, Aisla Armandi and Linda Lake also scored. Lake and Miley Fournier had two assists each, and Pease and Zoe Groomed added one apiece.
Madison Evans 21 saves in goal for fifth-seeded Traip Academy (6-7-1).
HALL-DALE/MONMOUTH 1, LISBON 0: Faith McDougal scored the game’s only goal to lead the Bulldogs to a Class C South quarterfinal win in Farmingdale.
Tori Tibbetts had an assist for No. 2 Hall-Dale (12-3), while Jade Graham made eight saves.
No. 7 Lisbon finishes at 7-6-1.
YARMOUTH 6, POLAND 1: Erica O’Connor scored three goals to lead the second-seeded Clippers (14-1) past the No. 7 Knights (3-11-1) in a Class B South quarterfinals at Yarmouth.
Maya Nasveschuk added two goals and Gianna LaBella also scored to help Yarmouth advance to a semifinal against third-seeded Gray-New Gloucester/NYA.

GIRLS SOCCER
MADISON 9, DIRIGO 0: Raegan Cowan had three goals and two assists to lead the No. 2 Bulldogs to the 8-person South quarterfinal win in Madison.
Mackenzie Robbins added four goals for Madison (15-0-0) while Ella Haynie chipped in two goals and an assist.
No.7 Dirigo finishes the season at 3-9-1.
