WATERFORD — A family and their pets safely escaped their home on Mill Hill Road after a dryer caught fire Friday evening, Fire Chief Adrien Morin said Tuesday.

The fire at the former Marr farm began in the first floor, damaging two rooms.

The occupants included a woman and several children, he said, and they all got out without injury.

There was fire and smoke damage, he said, and the multilayered roof had to be opened up to ventilate the building.

Central Maine was called to cut the power to the building.

The family was assisted by the Red Cross, Morin said.

The property was insured.

Departments from Norway, Harrison, Bridgton and Lovell responded to the scene, along with Stoneham Rescue.
