Meredith Dalessandro

SCARBOROUGH – Meredith Dalessandro, 93, formerly of Livermore Falls, passed away, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 19, 1931, the only child of Paul Monk and Dorothy (Knight-Loring) Monk. She graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1949 and later earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono and her master’s degree from the University of Maine at Farmington.

She married Frank Dalessandro in Livermore Falls on Aug. 28, 1952. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage and made their home on Bellaire Road, where they raised their two sons, Stephen and David. Frank passed away on April 14, 2012.

Meredith taught in Livermore Falls for 30 years and served as principal for the primary school, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Livermore Falls Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served as a deacon, and taught Sunday School. Most recently, she was a member of the Cape Elizabeth Methodist Church. She also was a member and past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, as well as a member of the Maine and National Teachers Associations and the Maine Rose Society.

She eventually left Livermore Falls to follow a dream of living on the coast. Most recently she lived in Portland at Ashton Gardens, where from her balcony she could view the ocean. It was there that she met her companion Denny Jones, who accompanied her on many day trips and to local events.

She was well known for her sense of humor, including for quips such as, “I have a Master’s Degree in education but a Doctorate in procrastination.” Always wanting to be on time for events, she set clocks ahead one hour – in order to be ten minutes late.

Meredith will be remembered for her service and faith to her Heavenly Father, her pure enjoyment of reading, doing daily crosswords, gardening, and her cats. She also loved following her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities and seeing them grow.

Meredith’s life was focused on family and her friends. It was the social fabric of all of you that helped make the Meredith we will cherish and remember.

She is survived by her sons; Stephen and his wife Nancy and David and his wife Kelly; by her grandchildren Jason, Scott, Paul, Stephanie, Katie, Gabrielle; and by her great-grandchildren Jon, Gavin, Colette, Bode, Penelope, Mona, Luke, and Eivan.

Meredith’s family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Gosnell Hospice staff for their loving care. Messages of condolence may be sent to: http://www.finleyfuneralhome.com

There will be a memories of Meredith social on Saturday, November 16, from 1-3 p.m., at the Livermore Falls First Baptist Church, 25 Church Street, Livermore Falls. A spring burial at the Moose Hill Cemetery, 31 Record Road, Livermore Falls, will be announced in the spring, sometime in May. Arrangements by FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.
