Fans watch the final seconds of Saturday’s basketball game between teams Hallie’s Hoop Troop and Ball is Life during the Hoops for Hallie basketball tournament at Poland Regional High School. Twenty-three teams from as far away as Massachusetts competed in the three-on-three tournament to raise funds for Kindness Keepers for Hallie, a nonprofit that honors the life of Hallie Oldham. The 9-year-old from Poland was killed when a large tree fell on her family’s car during a camping trip. Oldham played basketball and wore the No. 12, the same number her mother, Jen Oldham, wore when she played at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford. Most of the 115 players wore No. 12 during Saturday’s tournament. Money raised during last year’s inaugural Hoops for Hallie were used to support five families in need at Christmastime, for three college scholarships and to install one buddy bench at Poland Elementary School. “This year we are hoping to do more,” says Hallie Oldham’s aunt, Kristen Arsenault-Richards.
