AUBURN — Athena Gee and Ava Wilkinson paced NYA to a season-opening girls basketball victory over St. Dominic Academy on Thursday.
Gee and Wilkinson each scored 11 points, while Delia Fontana and Ella Giguere contributed nine points apiece for the Panthers (1-0).
Eighth-grader Juju Farrington scored a game-high 19 points and Charli Apodaca had 17 for the Saints (0-1).
BUCKFIELD 38, TEMPLE 19: Kianna Finnegan scored a game-high 10 points for the Bucks in their season-opening win over the Bereans in Buckfield.
Sara Devoe and Chloee Bennett each added eight points for Buckfield (1-0).
Mia Fitzpatrick scored seven points for Temple (0-1).
MARANACOOK 46, MONMOUTH 41: Celia Bergdahl and Alice Ferran each had a double-double for the Black Bears (1-0) in a win over the Mustangs (0-1) in Readfield.
Bergdahl had 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Ferran scored 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Maranacook.
Tarynn Keleher led Monmouth Academy with 11 points, while Kaitlyn Frost added nine points.
WINTHROP 44, DIRIGO 28: Ella Rice led all scorers with 11 points as the Ramblers defeated the Cougars on opening night in Winthrop.
Madeline Wagner and Evelyn Mortimer each contributed eight points for Winthrop (1-0).
Abby Luczynski scored 10 points for Dirigo (0-1), and Diana Cayer had six points.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
ST. DOMINIC 78, NYA 20: Taylor Varney finished with a game-high 19 points for the Saints in the win over the Panthers in Auburn.
Freshman Gad Tangilamesu chipped in 13 points and Ayden Rand added 11 points for St. Dominic (1-0).
Gage Kloza led North Yarmouth Academy (0-1) with seven points.
BUCKFIELD 82, TEMPLE 44: Trenton Haskell put up a game-high 29 points for the Bucks in their season-openening win over the Bereans in Buckfield.
Haskell scored 21 of his points on seven made 3-pointers. Nolan Litchfield added 12 points for Buckfield (1-0), which pulled away by outscoring the Bereans 29-2 in the second quarter.
Ricardo Louis finished with 15 points for Temple (0-1) and Peyton Reckards chipped in another 14 points.
BOYS’ HOCKEY
LEAVITT/GNG/POLAND/OAK HILL 5, KENNEBUNK/WELLS 1: Brody Emond had a hat trick and the Kings (1-0) beat the Rams (0-1) at the Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford.
Mason Aldrich and Breck Langevin also scored for the Kings. Weston Church scored for Kennebunk/Wells.
Reid Trapaney stopped 16 shots for the Kings and Richard Pocius stopped 25 shots for the Rams.
