DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the past, you have always been very helpful with Tommy’s Feral Felines. This year the need is especially great due to the devastation to all the feral cat colonies from the Dec. 17, 2023, storm.
We will be having Tommy’s Christmas Bake Sale and Bottle Drive this year at the Family Dollar store in Sabattus on 11 Middle Road on Saturday, Dec. 21, and on Sunday, Dec. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
We’re looking for bakers and Christmas baked goods. All baked goods must be wrapped, labeled, and priced. (Please no cupcakes.)
Rooper’s Redemption Centers has graciously agreed to accept bottles and cans at all their locations; just identify your donation as going to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends Fund. Donations can also be made via Pay Pal at https://www.tommysferalfelinefriends.com/ , or sent to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends at P.O. Box 274, Greene, ME 04236. Thank you to all who have supported Tommy’s Feral Felines. — John, Lewiston
ANSWER: I have such a soft spot in my heart for this organization. If you’re a cat lover, Tommy’s could really use your help.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are a group of senior citizens who get together once a month at our church for a meeting and a potluck dinner. We are searching for individual butter packets to use at the table. We have even tried looking on Amazon but we would have to buy in volume and they are very expensive. We are looking for about 50 or 60 packets and a place where we could order more if needed. Do you have any idea where we could buy these? — Sally, no town
ANSWER: I’m wondering if you could buy them from your favorite restaurant or perhaps they would even donate them. It’s not out of the question.
I found a couple catering companies online but the shipping is outrageously priced, on top of the crazy cost of the product (with minimum orders of 250 packets).
Depending on the size of your group, have you considered slicing sticks of butter into single-serving butter pats ahead of time, separating them with parchment or wax paper, then storing them in the freezer or refrigerator until ready to use? I know it would be a little bit of prep work but the savings would make it worthwhile.
Friends, if you have resources or ideas for single-serving butter pats, or you own a restaurant willing to sell or donate this item to this lovely group, please write!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m Kay, the 90-year-old birthday gal who celebrated this occasion with friends Donna and Nancy at the Chick-a-Dee Restaurant in Lewiston. Nancy wrote about it recently in your column (Nov. 21 and 26 Sun Spots).
I too, would like to thank the generous couple who picked up our tab. It was totally unexpected and added a lot of excitement to our modest celebration. We will definitely pay it forward.
I’m the youngest of seven children and have two living brothers, Bob Meserve, 92, of Kennebunkport and Dick Meserve, 99, of Harrington who was presented with a Boston Post cane earlier this year for being the oldest resident in his town. Thank you! — Kay, Auburn
ANSWER: Happy Birthday to you, Kay!
