GRAY — A strong start propelled Gray-New Gloucester to a 39-23 girls basketball victory over Wells on Tuesday.
The Patriots (3-1) outscored the Warriors 14-2 in the opening quarter. Laney Farrar led Gray-NG with 11 points, while Ivy Ouellette hit two 3-pointers and scored 10 points and Izzy Morelli finished with eight points.
Maren Maxon topped Wells (2-2) with 10 points.
BUCKFIELD 50, RICHMOND 35: Sarae Devoe finished with 14 points for the Bucks in their win in Buckfield.
Chloee Bennett contributed 11 points for Buckfield (3-0).
Darby Flanagan tallied 14 points for Richmond (0-3), and Olivia Mason added 12.
ST. DOMINIC 48, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 23: Charli Apodaca scored 21 points as the Saints earned the win in Auburn.
Juju Farrington added 15 points for St. Dominic (2-2), which held Old Orchard Beach scoreless in the third quarter.
Tessa Ferguson scored 10 points for the Seagulls (1-3).
BANGOR 57, LEWISTON 29: Avery Clark tallied 13 points for the Rams in their home win over the Blue Devils in Bangor.
Ayzlynn Gifford contributed 12 points for Bangor (2-1).
Bailey Tardif-Mockler led Lewiston (0-4) with 13 points, and Ella Beaudoin added 10.
BOYS BASKETBALL
ST. DOMINIC 52, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 30: Donel Tangilamesu had 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Saints stayed undefeated with the win in Auburn.
Jack Brocke scored a team-high 13 points for Sr. Dominic (4-0), which held Old Orchard Beach scoreless in the fourth quarter. Taylor Varney had 11 rebounds and four steals for the Saints, and teammate Jonathan Tangilamesu pulled down 10 rebounds.
Brady Plante scored13 points for Old Orchard (1-3).
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 64, WELLS 53: The Patriots built a 15-point halftime lead, then held off a comeback bid earn their first win of the season at Wells.
The Warriors closed to within 52-49 early in the fourth, by Colby Mitchell scored nine of his 19 points in the final eight minutes to help Gray-New Gloucester (1-3) stay in front.
John Patenaude led the Patriots with 20 points.
Jeremy Therrien scored 16 points and Tanner Fifield had 14 for Wells (1-3).
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 56, MADISON 28: Jace Bessey put up a game-high 27 points for the Phoenix in their win in Jay.
Caden Frazier added seven points for Spruce Mountain (3-0).
Jacob Linkletter led Madison (0-3) with 12 points.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 49, OAK HILL 38: Levi Laverdiere’s game-high 20 points paced the Mustangs to the win in Wales.
Bingham Abbott contributed 10 points and Jake Harmon nine to Monmouth’s victory.
Eli Desmond led Oak Hill (1-4) with 11 points.
HAMPDEN ACADEMY 45, MT. BLUE 30: Aidan Kochendoerfer led the Broncos with 12 points in their win in Hampden.
Miles Shain added 11 points and Sawyer Worcester had 10 for Hampden Academy (2-1).
Tyler Abell scored a game-high 18 points, including three 3-pointers, for Mt. Blue (3-1).
RICHMOND 55, BUCKFIELD 46: The Bobcats went on a 15-4 run in the fourth quarter to earn a road win in Buckfield.
Richmond (1-2) trailed 42-40 after three periods.
David Edward drained six 3-pointers and put up a game-high 21 points for Richmond. Zaden Steele added nine and Leeum Dufresne and Jake Gay each had eight.
Buckfield (1-3) was led by Trenton Haskell’s 17 points, while Krosby Harvey finished with 13.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 49, WINTHROP 46: Ben Desalle scored four of his 14 points in overtime as the Falcons (2-2) downed the Ramblers (2-2) in Rumford.
Mountain Valley’s Tanner Henry led all scorers with 17 points, highlighted by four 3-pointers. Dylan Theriault added nine points, including the Falcons’ other two overtime points on a pair of free throws.
Cole Bard was Winthrop’s top scorer with 13 points, while Carter Rivers had 10 and Braden Branagan nine points.
LEWISTON 69, BANGOR 56: After the teams were tied at halftime, the Blue Devils (2-2) outscored the Rams (1-3) 35-22 over the final two quarters to win in Lewiston.
Lewiston’s Lonnie Thomas led all scorers with 23 points. Teammate Abdirahman Dakane added 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and Deion Jackson and Adam Zeininger scored eight apiece.
Bangor was led by Nate Grunkemeyer’s 13 points. Harry Fitzpatrick made three 3s and finished with 11 points, and Liam Vigue scored nine.
WINDHAM 78, EDWARD LITTLE 56: Tyrie James scored 21 points, AJ Moody added 17 and the Eagles (3-0) used a 20-2 third-quarter run to pull away in Windham.
Colin Janvrin and Creighty Dickson each finished with 10 points, while Braycen Freese had eight points and also drew three charges in the game for Windham.
Diing Maiwen led Edward Little (2-2) with 20 points, Owen Galway had 12 points, and the duo each made three 3-pointers.
BOYS HOCKEY
MT. ARARAT/LISBON/MORSE/HYDE 10, GREELY 2: Hayden Brown scored five goals in his season debut and the Eagles exploded for seven first-period goals in their home-opening victory in Brunswick.
Anthony Kavanaugh, Joe Grady and Keegan Schmoll each scored their first career goal for Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse (1-2), and Kavanaugh and Grady added assists. Lawson Mayer and Tristan Huot also scored, and Griffin Ridlon and Parker Crafts added two assists each.
Finn Dedek and Colby Pappas each chipped in with an assist, and goaltender Kai Stockford made 18 saves.
Greely falls to 0-3.
