
Mary Ann “Mimi” Nelson
AUBURN – Mary Ann “Mimi” Nelson, 88, of Livermore Falls, Maine, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, at Andwell Hospice House in Auburn. She was born on Nov. 14, 1936, in Chisholm, the daughter of Willie F. Deshaies and Emma (Lacroix) Deshaies.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Jay High School. On June 22, 1955, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, she married Richard H. “Dickie” Nelson. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage before his passing on March 31, 2017.
Besides devoting her time to her family and her home, Mary Ann worked at the local shoe shops, in retail at Wilson’s in Livermore Falls, and Ames in Jay, and later at Pomeroy Hill Nursing Home in the housekeeping department. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, and a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Mimi and Dickie enjoyed over 30 years at the Edgewater Motel in Old Orchard Beach during the summer months as well as The Town & Lake Motel and Cabins in Rangeley and Mount Blue State Park in Weld. New Harbor was also a favorite destination that Mimi and Dickie enjoyed traveling to on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy a Lobster Roll & Steamed Clams.
Mimi was very devoted to her family and will be greatly missed by many. She was an avid sports fan, and loved following her grandchildren’s baseball, basketball and football events.
She is survived by her daughters, Candy Bessey of Jay and Judy Farrington and husband Robert of Jay, her son, Richard “Buddy” Nelson, Jr. and wife Cindy of Lewiston, daughter-in-law, Diane Nelson of Manchester; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her sister Elaine Doiron of Livermore Falls.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband Richard; son, Michael “Spike” Nelson; sisters, Wilma Roy, Pauline Richard, Bernice DiSotto, and Jeannie Bryant, her brother, Willie “Bill” Deshaies, sister-in-law, Cheryl Deshaies; and son-in-law, Dale Bessey.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 20, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1 Church Street, Jay, Maine. Interment at the Holy Cross Niche, 445 Park Street, Livermore Falls, Maine will be held at a later date.
