DEAR SUN SPOTS: In our Tarr Avenue neighborhood in Lewiston, we have a “Secret Santa” or, as I would call him — a super good Samaritan.
On Sunday morning, Dec. 8, we all woke up to snow. I looked outside and someone was cleaning the driveway of the person who usually cleans mine. I didn’t pay much attention to that but then I noticed that my driveway had been cleared as well.
I called my usual plow person so I could pay him but he told me I owed him nothing, stating that he had not cleared my driveway and that his had been cleaned too.
I don’t know who did this wonderful deed of helping so many of us, but I want this person to know how much we all appreciate it. May his kindness be returned to him. — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: ‘Tis the season for extra thoughtfulness and acts of kindness. Your good Samaritan has a heart of gold. Thank you for sharing this feel-good letter.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We want to say thank you to a kind gentleman who was at the Tractor Supply in Lewiston this past weekend. We were loading 50 pound bags of salt into the back of our car, and this kind man came over with his young daughter and asked if he could help us. He didn’t have to offer, but we appreciated his help. His daughter was also a very pleasant young person.
We want you to know that we enjoy your column and always find it interesting and informative. — No name, Hartford
ANSWER: It was very kind of that customer to help you out, and he was certainly setting a good example for his daughter, too. So often, we are busy, rushed, or just engrossed in our own life drama. It’s easy to miss opportunities to look around and become aware of what others right in front of us may need.
Also, sometimes when folks offer to help we say, “No thanks” or “I’m all set.” Allow people to help you. It makes them feel seen, useful and gives them a little endorphin boast.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: My wife has had a rabbit’s foot charm on her set of keys for eight years and our tuxedo cat likes to play with it. I’m looking for one just for the cat and have gone to all the dollar stores, Hobby Lobby and Petco but have had no luck. I don’t have any apps or a computer to research this. Can you please help me find a rabbit’s foot nearby or at a place where I can order one by telephone? — No name, no town
ANSWER: Both Michael’s and Walmart have the rabbit’s foot key chains you are looking for on their websites. Check with the nearest stores to see if they have them in the craft (or pet) departments. If these stores don’t carry them in stock, go to the customer service desk and request that they order one for you.
It would also be great if you had a helpful friend who could order online for you so don’t be shy about asking someone.
