AUBURN — Two talented young forwards put on a show Saturday night.
Sophomore Kylie Dulac scored four goals to lift Lewiston/Oak Hill/Mt. Ararat/Morse to a 6-3 win over Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland/Monmouth/Oxford Hills at Norway Savings Bank Arena.
Freshman Leksi Langevin scored all three goals for the Red Hornets (4-3-2).
“Yeah, you know, I thought for the most part that, you know, their strategy was probably very similar to ours,” Red Hornets coach Dana Berube said. “We were trying to shut down (No.) 7 (Dulac) and they were trying to shut down our No. 7 (Langevin), and neither team did a good job at it, right? Because good players find a way.”
Dulac has 21 goals this season to lead the Blue Devils (6-5), while Langevin is right behind her with 20.
“We matched up really well against EL. We’re pretty much a mirror image of each other, both have some very young talent, and it was a good game,” Lewiston co-head coach Dan Goyette said.
Dulac and Langevin produced the first four goals. Dulac scored on a partial breakaway to give the Lewiston co-op a 1-0 lead before Langevin tied the game after picking up a loose puck in front of the crease.
Langevin then converted a breakaway early in the second period before Dulac redirected an Abigail Titus shot, tying the game.
After long-distance shots by Avaya Desjardins and Crew Langley early in the third gave Lewiston a 4-2 lead, Dulac scored Lewiston’s final two goals, including a power-play tally when she tipped in a Desjardins shot.
“We talked about in between periods just getting pucks to the net because we never know what happens,” Goyette said. “We got a couple of lucky bounces, and we’ll take it.”
Langevin also scored in the third period.
Riley Walters made 22 saves for Lewiston. Red Hornets goalie Paige Fecteau stopped 23 shots.
