Roland G. Marcotte

LEWISTON – Roland G. Marcotte, 95, of Lewiston, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at Montello Manor after a short illness. He was born on July 25, 1929, in Berlin, N.H., the first child of Roland L. and Lucienne (Carrier) Marcotte. He graduated from St. Dom’s High School and then from Bates College in 1952, and received a Masters in Education from the University of Maine – Gorham in 1966.

From 1952 – 1956 he served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, he moved to South Portland where he began a career as a professor at SMVTI (now SMCC). In 2004, after he retired from SMVTI, he moved to Lewiston to be nearer to family. Although he was a man of few words, he was fiercely devoted to family and friends, and never passed on an invitation to any family event. He was a constant photographer at any function. His surviving family members will enjoy the many photos and videos for years to come. He loved animals, particularly dogs, as evidenced by a lifetime of having a furry companion by his side. He will be missed daily by all who knew and loved him but especially missed at all family functions.

He was predeceased by his parents, five siblings: Mike Marcotte and wife Polly, Jackie Klooster and husband Hank, Maurice Marcotte and wife Juliette, Leonard Marcotte, Larry Marcotte.

He is survived by: sister-in-law Margaret Marcotte; 12 nieces and nephews: Diane (Dan) Bennett, Paul Klooster, Butch (Joan) Klooster, Debby ( Lee) Chapaw, Julie Marcotte, Sue Marcoux, Pat (Susan) Klooster, Norm (Terri) Marcotte, Sandra (John) Brown, Bob (Cyndi) Marcotte, Greg (Sarah) Marcotte, Jeff Marcotte; and many great nieces and great nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation Friday, Jan. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at The Fortin and Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway Lewiston. A Funeral Service and Military Honors will follow at 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
