Carter’s father, Dave Carter, bought the skis for his cross-country ski collection. The long skis were used by Swedish people who settled in Aroostook County in the late 1800s. Vogt Brooks, who raced in high school at Telstar High School and Gould Academy, both in Bethel, wore the same wooden Nordic skis she used during her racing days.
