Of all the veterans using the Pettingill Park ski tower Sunday, none could equal the form and perfection of Wayne Stevens, an 11 year old youngster who jumped 50 feet officially but who was credited unofficially with 52 feet.
The perfect weather drew every one of the best skiers in Lewiston- Auburn to the Park but none could quite keep up with this Auburn youngster who was leaving them all behind. Last year he won a pair of skis in a ski jumping contest and ski enthusiasts predict some great things for him in the winter carnivals.

It’s not a show tour. It’s traveling to learn, says Angela Roy.
She and Shawn Robitaille, Lewiston High School seniors, were chosen to perform with Up with People. The group features people ages 18 to 25 from all over the world in a year-long tour that encompasses Japan, parts of Africa and almost all of Europe. Each week they perform in a new place and stay with a new host family.
“At the end of the week, we thank them by giving them a show,” Roy said.
The actors do more than put on a show. They do community work as they travel around the world. They work with Habitat for Humanity, volunteer in soup kitchens and help with the beautification of parks in the towns they visit.
The concept behind Up with People began in the 1960s as a celebration of humanity and diversity.
“We try to give the overall picture of helping people out and the world uniting,” Roy said.
