DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Androscoggin Retired Educators’ Association is offering a $2,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who lives in Androscoggin County, is going on to college, and plans to enter the field of education.

The scholarship is awarded based on scholarship, citizenship and need. All candidates must complete and submit the following application materials: the AREA Scholarship application form; an essay on “Why I wish to be an educator and need financial assistance,”  a 4-year high school transcript and a letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor or school administrator.

For more information, or to receive the application packet, contact your high school guidance office or contact Jean Roy at [email protected]. The completed application packet is due by March 25.

ANSWER: What a wonderful offer for the high school seniors of Androscoggin County. I’m happy to get the word out — after all, there wouldn’t be a Sun Spots without my “faithful fan base!”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Lewiston High School Music Program needs instrument donations such as wind, brass, percussion, guitar, keyboard, etc. Please help fill our new space with instruments!

ANSWER: Do you have musical instruments in good condition lurking in your closets or attic? Now you know what to do with them.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for the person you recently listed who does home clean-outs. His references seem stellar. I need his contact information. — No name, no town.

ANSWER: The contractor I listed most recently is Josh Cash of Creative Cleanouts. Here is the recommendation from a Sun Spots reader that I published in the fall:

“Earlier in the summer Josh Cash of Creative Cleanouts helped me clean out a large basement and two storage sheds. We worked together and were able to donate, recycle, and resell quite a bit, keeping many reusable items out of the landfill.

“He came up with a plan, kept me motivated, showed up when he said he would, and got the project done at a very reasonable cost. He was so kind, respectful, and fun to work with as we went through piles and piles of stuff.

I’m so proud to have an empty basement now and efficient, organized sheds. I never could have accomplished all this without him! Contact Josh at 210-5771 or [email protected].”

I’ve seen some good reviews for this contractor on Google and the Next-door app as well. Of course, if you have other cleanout contractors to recommend, I’m here for it. All local contractors are always in demand in Sun Spots Land.
