Light snow is expected Friday to spread across western Maine, according to the National Weather Service in Gray.

Forecasters expect 1-2 inches of snow for most of Franklin and Oxford counties, with 2-3 inches possible in the Lewiston-Auburn area. High temperatures could reach above freezing.
The weather service says there could be a brief period of light freezing rain Friday afternoon in the foothills region, though confidence in this mixing is low.
After the snow moves out, Saturday will bring a return to sunshine with seasonable temperatures. However, the break in winter weather will be short-lived. Another storm system is forecast to bring snow to the region Sunday night into Monday, potentially mixing with or changing to rain south of the foothills as temperatures climb above freezing on Monday.
