100 Years Ago: 1925

Governor Ralph O. Brewster had the time of his life in Lewiston, Saturday at the International Convention of the Canadian Snowshoers’ Union.

He enjoyed every minute from the time he stepped into City Hall to the moment he took the 1 o’clock trolley car for Augusta with his secretary, Colonel Charles E. Dustin.

He came from Augusta by trolley Saturday morning with his private secretary. He really should have stayed in Augusta, but he would not give up the opportunity of greeting his Canadian brothers with the official welcome of the State of Maine.

50 Years Ago: 1975

Mrs. Emma Currier of Lewiston, an employee of the New England Telephone Company’s traffic department for 31 years, has retired and on Wednesday was a dinner guest of a group of co-workers at Steckino’s Restaurant.

She was presented many gifts including a purse of money from those present as well as others who were unable to be present.

25 Years Ago: 2000

When police need to respond to a crime scene or other emergency, there is a lot they need to take with them. Since they never know what they might be up against, they never know what they’ll need.

Setting up at any emergency scene will be easier now since the Lewiston department converted an ambulance into a mobile command unit.

“It’s not a new concept in the state but it’s a new concept for this area,” said police Sgt. Thomas Avery. “It means we’re moving up in the world.”
