Despite the downpour of rain and a heavy fogbank that hung over Rumford Tuesday morning, the officials of the Chisholm Ski club carried on with the program of the annual Rumford carnival Tuesday. Spectators in raincoats and protected by umbrellas watched the morning snowshoe races. Contestants were drenched by the morning’s rain and wet snow but were in as high spirits as on Monday. The obstacle snowshoe race, the first event, on Tuesday’s program, proved great although boys in the junior division were forced to run over a mile course up hill and down dale, through sticky snow. The boys had to roll part of the way down a hillside to reach the finish line.

Several residents of Livermore Falls reported a serious dog problem on Knapp Street to selectmen Monday night.

There are 14 to 15 dogs in an area 200 by 1,000 feet, Pauline Brochu and others said. They bark all day and all night, one has been barking for eight years, the residents said.

That animal is outdoors from 5:30 a.m., when the owner leaves for work, to as late as 6 p.m. when he returns, barking all that time, they said.

In addition to the barking, it’s “the little gifts they leave everywhere,” the neighbors complained about.

The dogs are not loose, they said, but the owners come home and walk them on leashes, allowing them to stop wherever they wish, even on someone else’s lawn. They use the lawn at the church on the corner of Knapp Street a lot, the group said.
