Abby Luczynski’s layup with 4:12 remaining put 10th-seeded Dirigo in front to stay, and the Cougars held on for a 48-45 victory over seventh-seeded North Yarmouth Academy in a Class C South preliminary-round girls basketball contest Tuesday in Yarmouth.
Dirigo (11-8) will face No. 2 Carrabec (14-4) next Tuesday in the quarterfinals in Augusta.
Luczynski wound up the lone Cougar in double figures with 19 points. Diana Cayer chipped in nine points.
NYA (12-7) was paced by 21 points from Ella Giguere and 17 from Athena Gee, but the Panthers didn’t score the final 6:47 of the contest.
POLAND 45, MT. ABRAM 36: A balanced offensive attack carried the ninth-seeded Knights (13-6) over the eighth-seeded Roadrunners (9-10) in a Class C South preliminary in Salem Township.
Charlotte Grenier made three 3-pointers and paced Poland with 11 points, and Phoebe Paradis, Lise Poublan and Payton Rose each added nine points.
Kharlie Turner scored 11 and Jenna Osgood had 10 for Mt. Abram.
The Knights advance to face top-seeded Hall-Dale (15-3) in the quarterfinals next Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.
LINCOLN ACADEMY 51, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 40: Mariam DeLisle hit four 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 21 points in the ninth-seeded Eagles’ (9-10) Class B South prelim win over the No. 8 Falcons (9-10) in Rumford.
Lilly Labrie added 12 points and Rowan Coffin 10 to Lincoln’s playoff win. The Eagles will face top-seeded Spruce Mountain (17-1) in the quarterfinals Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Portland Expo.
Ali Mazza led Mountain Valley with 12 points, including a pair of treys. Alyvia Theriault (three 3s) and Madison Dow finished with 11 points each.
UNIFIED BASKETBALL
EDWARD LITTLE 65, POLAND 44: Arianna Steinmentz and Arianna Worcester led the way with 10 points apiece in the Red Eddies win over the Knights in Auburn.
Poland’s Dalton Aponte finished with 12 points, while Donovan Pare and Jack Wang each scored 10 points.
