Dan Giguere teaches his 15-year-old grandson, Ayden Laliberte, how to tap maple trees Thursday on Davis Mountain in Auburn. Laliberte moved to Lewiston from North Carolina in October and is experiencing his first season of snow. He is helping tap 1,400 trees in preparation for the maple syrup season during winter break from Lewiston High School. Giguere said sap typically starts flowing the last week of February. “I am hoping for a really good year and no blizzard on Maine Maple Sunday,” the owner of Treehouse Brand Maple Syrup said.
