As an elderly citizen of 85, I find myself heartbroken by the current state of our country.
President Donald Trump is making America a laughingstock abroad, threatening force against allies, and capitulating to Russia’s Vladimir Putin. His actions undermine the very principles of democracy he claims to uphold, while his unelected advisors dismantle the mechanisms of governance in the United States and interfere with foreign affairs they do not understand.
European allies are now angry and preparing to defend themselves against both the U.S. and Russia. Meanwhile, the Republican Congress has abandoned its responsibilities, allowing this crisis to unfold; I’m looking at Sen. Susan Collins.
I am deeply saddened by what is happening to our nation.
