Many Mainers — many Americans — are too busy just getting by to catch on to our nation’s terrible truth: the truth is I think President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s actions to cut government waste and spending are not only illegal — some dangerous, many sloppy — but are also deliberate moves to the destruction of our constitutional government.
Thousands and thousands of federal workers have been fired or laid off. Some may think that’s a good thing, that government has gotten “way too big.”
But very soon cuts to Veterans Affairs, Medicaid, Medicare, Meals on Wheels, care for handicapped, school lunches, Head Start — a few among many — will begin to bite.
The bite won’t heal without help from our elected congressional delegates. They weren’t elected just to be reelected. They weren’t elected to be timid, to be silent, to be pushovers.
They were elected to look after their constituents’ needs and concerns. They were elected to honor our Constitution.
Our leaders must be fearless and forthright. Our leaders must block efforts to give tax breaks to the super rich. Our leaders must defeat would-be dictators.
Maine’s leaders must bring all Maine people together to make day-to-day life better for all and to keep our democracy safe and sound.
