LOVELL — Residents will decide at the annual town meeting Saturday whether to purchase a loader and an excavator.

It is among 88 articles on the warrant, which if passed will see a budget increase of 1.65%.

The meeting will be held at the Town Hall at 1133 Main St. beginning at 9 a.m.

The Select Board pared down the $1.6 million budget to limit the increase.

Selectmen are recommending the equipment purchases. Instead of using property tax revenue, the town will use excise tax revenue.

To limit the tax increase, town officials are proposing no paving projects for the next year.

A new pumper tanker for the Fire Department, estimated to cost $600,000, would be paid with $200,000 from surplus, $100,000 from the Fire Department and financing for the rest over 10 years. An additional article will ask voters to approve paying $40,000 per year to pay for the 10-year note.

Selectman John Jones is expected to seek reelection to a three-year term.

Voters will also elect a director for the Maine School Administrative District 72 board, as well as members of the Planning Board and the Budget Committee.

The final article could face much debate. It proposes a zoning ordinance change regarding piers, docks, wharfs, bridges and other structures and uses extending over or beyond the normal high-water line of a water body or within a wetland.
