Jake Smith scored twice and the Reading Royals beat the Maine Mariners 4-2 on Friday night in an ECHL game at Reading, Pennsylvania.
Maine had its two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 3-5 on its 10-game trip, which continues Saturday in Reading and concludes Sunday in Wheeling, West Virginia.
Smith gave Reading a 1-0 lead just 28 seconds into the game. Maine tied it four minutes later on a goal by Lynden McCallum, but Shane Seller put the Royals back in front later in the period. Smith scored his second goal midway through the second period and Mason Primeau scored late in the third for the Royals.
McCallum got his second goal in the third period.
Vinnie Purpura stopped 28 shots for Reading, while Ryan Bischel made 20 saves for the Mariners.
