LEWISTON — A Public Works crew painted over the rest of a large piece of graffiti stating “DUMP TRUMP” on Tuesday morning, after initially only covering the word “Dump” on Monday.

City officials had said weather and staffing constraints were the reasons why only half the graffiti was covered on a wall near Veterans Memorial Park.

The half-completed job and subsequent Sun Journal story Monday night resulted in a storm of more than 350 comments, questions and conspiracy theories about why “Trump” was left uncovered.

On Tuesday morning, after Public Works completed the job, Mayor Carl Sheline posted a photo to the popular Lewiston Rocks Facebook page, stating, “We found paint! Everyone have a great day.”

“No conspiracy here, just hard working public works employees,” Sheline said later Tuesday.
