WATERFORD — Voters at Saturday’s annual town meeting overwhelmingly approved of moving ahead to hire someone to manage day-to-day governing operations, relieving selectmen of some of those responsibilities.

A vote to approve hiring a manager will be held at next year’s annual town meeting before beginning the process of having the Select Board appoint one.

Voters also authorized the Select Board to hire an interim administrative assistant in the meantime.

About 70 residents took about two hours to ratify all 64 articles on the warrant, approving the $1.8 million municipal budget, which was relatively flat, according to town officials.

Jonathan Hasson was elected to the Select Board, succeeding Todd Sawyer. Judy Green was elected to a fourth term on the Maine School Administrative District 17 board of directors.
