The Editor of the Lewiston Journal has been invited to make one of a limited party of newspapermen of the United States on a warship to Hawaiian Islands and the Pacific. The government supplies quarters and entertainment, the newspapermen to pay a specified sum for food. It is to be one of the notable trips of the decade. Sorry, not to go.
50 Years Ago: 1975
A young woman was rushed to a local hospital this morning after she fainted while waiting in line at the Maine Employment Security Commission on Lisbon Street in Lewiston.
According to the police report, the woman, a Sabattus resident, was taken to the Central Maine General Hospital by Ace Medical Services Ambulance and following treatment was released.
25 Years Ago: 2000
Poland Regional High School was one of three groups to receive a bonus grant from the Oxford Wal-Mart Super Center in January. Checks also went to Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and His Place Teen Center in Oxford.
A $500 check was presented to Adam Doughty of Poland Regional High School, matching money raised at a car wash for the junior class.
Sarita Goodman, Wal-Mart community involvement coordinator, presented a $900 check to Jared Cash, class president at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, for a senior class project.
A $900 check was presented to Fran Rugg of His Place Teen Center for a construction project.
