Judith Ann Caldwell

AUSTIN, Texas – Judith Ann Caldwell, 86, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly in her sleep on Feb. 3, 2025. She was born in South Paris, Maine where she graduated High School then went on to get a nursing degree from Mercury Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Maire. Her parents, Everett and Beatrice Benson and her son David preceded her in death and welcomed her with open arms.

She is survived by her beloved husband David after 61 years of a loving marriage; daughters Debra Beville and husband Mike, Lisa Carter; and her seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Paige, Amanda, Collin, Jozef, Isabelle, Jack and Lilly. Her cousin Jim Leighton of Auburn, Maine also survives her.

In 1962 Judy enlisted in the Air Force as a nurse, and it was in Charleston, S.C. where she met and married a young pilot, David. They moved around often and loved meeting new people and seeing new places. Travel was in their blood and something they loved to do together. Their assignments led them to many places including Guam, Germany, Saudi Arabia and many states in the South. Upon returning to the States they moved to Marietta, Ga., they then moved to Waco, Texas, where she worked for the VA. Wanting to be back in Austin with family, she requested a transfer to the Austin Treasury. She received several awards during her time at the Treasury before she retired in 2006. Judy and David built a home out in the country where she loved to sit on the back patio with her kitties Dottie and Sully, while they watched the deer and the birds.

Known as NaNa to her grandkids, she never missed a baseball, football, lacrosse game or an FFA show, always cheering on from the sidelines. She was an Aggie mom and enjoyed going to Aggie football games, whether in Aggieland or traveling out of state with her Aggie crew.

She enjoyed going to Red Hat luncheons, playing Bunco with her “Bunco Babes”, and participating in the Retired Officers Wives Club, whom we’d like to thank for always keeping her included. She was also a member of the Ladies Knights of Columbus 8156 at St. Catherine.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life on Thursday Feb. 20, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Rd, Austin, TX 78749.
